Surprised By My Soul | The City Church

Surprised By My Soul | The City Church

I love this sermon! Our feelings are not paramount (41:27 in the video)  we SHOULD question our feelings! Our Salvation and HOPE in God is what we need to Trust.

Worship notes

So, as I journey deeper into this marvelous love story that Jesus wrote on my heart at age 14, I feel pressed to BLOG! I hope the following whispers from Creator God into the inner workings of my soul are a great encouragement to you and bring Glory to God in every way.

I am so in Love with Jesus.

Hope flows through suffering.

When the enemy seems to be chasing me and I'm running in fear. I must Stop, turn around and remind him that the RED SEA (God) is going to crush him as I reach the steady foundation of God's word.

God has to cut away my flesh to reveal His Holy spirit in me. To call and pull me into a right relationship with Him. Obedience in Christ is when flesh falls off.

Present problems often prepare us for future positions.

...we applied for our Visas today. Soon we will be a family of five. It is ONLY because Christ adopted us first that we can step out in Faith. God's love has recked us! I pray it continues to do so.
Worship Him today.
Find a secret place and just let the great physician work on your heart. Draw near to the great creator and Lord of all Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas,
 Jamie

Is it all worth it?

Before this post is over analyzed by those closest to us I would like to reveal the source of the title. It is simply God's word and out of a heart drenched in worship that I dare write such a bold post. It is the cry of my heart to witness and be a living testimony to my great Jesus. I want to Glorify Him only.

Our Church has been visited by The Holy Spirit. We invited some folks that brought on a renewal in our congregation. The last few weeks our family has simply enjoyed being Christians. We have laughed, cried, soaked in the word, rested intensely and worshipped with our whole being. This interruption in our weekly schedule has made a mess of us. Jesus seems to be all we think about. Our marriage has been blessed. Im not so concerned with seeping sin, the worlds opinion or the impending doom and gloom that surrounds our world. My heart swells up in boldness for my creator and I weep for the lost that do not know Him or care about knowing His BEAUTIFUL word. What an adventure we have been on and ...what a generous God we serve!

I know we must get off our mountain top soon and slide down into the valley to continue in the fight of Faith. Our friends leave Sunday night but the fire they have started will not burn out. It will continue to spread and in this family...we will never be the same.

God has touched our hearts, healed failures, strengthened us and found a forever dwelling place inside our hearts. Last night we focused on Psalm 91, Faith and really believing.

Oh, back to the title...Is it all worth it? I asked myself this question many times in my life. Is the scrutiny, loss of friends, separation of fellowship, adoption of broken hearted and sick children, repenting because I'm broken too, persecution for being different, struggle, submission, sacrifice, service, knowledge of sin, struggle with sins, frailness, weirdness, heartache, longing...is this Christian life worth it all? Is following Jesus easy? Is raising children in GOD's word and having Marriage that honors GOD worth it? The fight against self alone can make you weary but the choice to LIVE for Christ is really difficult at times. Yes, these last few weeks we have been renewed so again we can engage in God's word to win the hearts of men and woman seeking Jesus.
IT IS ALL WORTH IT!
He paid the price so we know that in every sin, circumstance and fear..God has a better plan. He has covered it all with His blood and we can move on. We can let it go. We can laugh, sing, worship and soak in the huge promises that HE KEEPS! Be encouraged and be bold in your walk with the Lord. He is our steadfast so do not be afraid. Do not care what people think. Care about what God thinks. Be a Jesus freak for Him. Live for Him and no person or persons. He is Faithful ...He is so Faithful.

Psalm 91:1-16
91  He who dwells in athe shelter of the Most High
will abide in bthe shadow of the Almighty.
I will say1 to the Lord, “My crefuge and my dfortress,
my God, in whom I etrust.”
For he will deliver you from fthe snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will gcover you with his pinions,
and under his hwings you will ifind refuge;
his jfaithfulness is ka shield and buckler.
lYou will not fear mthe terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
and nsee the recompense of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord your odwelling place—
the Most High, who is my crefuge2
10  pno evil shall be allowed to befall you,
qno plague come near your tent.
11  rFor he will command his sangels concerning you
to tguard you in all your ways.
12  On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you ustrike your foot against a stone.
13  You will tread on vthe lion and the wadder;
the young lion and xthe serpent you will ytrample underfoot.
14  “Because he zholds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he aknows my name.
15  When he bcalls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and chonor him.
16  With dlong life I will satisfy him
and eshow him my salvation.”

Unconditional Love from you and miracles abound! Praise GOD! No, really..PRAISE GOD!

We have been on quite a journey through this adoption. Rescued by many through prayer to our awesome Lord Jesus Christ. There have been so many that have truly sacrificed time, money, self and  time to bring Daniel and Leah home. We stumble around trying to find ways to thank them and fall short I'm sure.

PSALM 96:3
Publish His glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things He does.

Our biggest hope is in Christ and His great rewards for those who have been relentless in helping Daniel and Leah have a family and be introduced to our almighty Savior and friend, King Jesus.

We love you and love being co-laborers while here. We are encouraged by your love for orphans because of your adoption. Thank you.

So, here is an update. Get ready to jump, sing and rejoice at all the good things God has done in THE WAIT! He is mighty to save! Praise Him!

Ladies first...(: Our baby girl Leah Faith

Do you see her standing?
Do you see God's mighty power to heal? I do!
I praise my Lord!

Our youngest son, Daniel Thomas!
 Do you see his heart?
I do! I shout for Joy in Christ!

God is so powerful in this sweet boys life!
We are so excited to meet him too!

We hope to bring them home soon. We are still in the midst of some very important documents but moving along. Have we mentioned God's great Faithfulness? Leah's status said healthy. How great is our God? My heart just sings! God has also been providing for our family in miraculous ways, absolutely miraculous! I am in awe of Him!

We love you all and pray great works of the Lord through your hands and Blessings from Christ to move and equip you to reach the world for Jesus Christ. Thank you for your continued LOVE and coveted prayers as we prepare to LOVE these kiddos with as much as we have from our Lord!

Thank you...to God be the Glory and Honor ( :

Love,

Adoption Update October 2014

First, let me say thank you for all of your prayers, your gifts and incredible LOVE. God is FAITHFUL.

As we approach the one year anniversary of our adoption journey we long to hold Daniel and Leah in our arms. We pray Philippians 4:11 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
We must learn to be content in all things including the wait.

So you may be wondering where we are in this wait?

We are currently waiting on something abbreviated as LOA ( Letter of Acceptance) This is in the hands of our dear Chinese friends. Once we are accepted ( Lord willing ), we will gain some information on travel arrangements and when we will be invited to China to meet our children.

Our hearts swell with prayer and Hope that they are both surrounded by caring and Jesus filled people that Love them everyday. We pray in Faith as God showed us His great Faithfulness in this same prayer while waiting for our Samuel, during our first adoption from Russia. Will you pray with us? This is our greatest desire.

We have celebrated so many family events while waiting! Samuel's three year adoption anniversary, Our seven year wedding anniversary, incredible fundraisers, weddings and home schooling masterpieces! God has moved mountains in resources to bring them home! What a mighty God we serve!

As we attempt to live out Romans 12:8-13

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit,[g] serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

....we have neglected blogging and some other social events and pressed into each other as a family during the wait. There will be a great many changes so this is a great time to pray, serve, read God's word and listen.  Please forgive us/me for the lack of updates. Social media is a bear and noise sometimes in my own spirit and I pull back and draw into Christ when peace escapes me. Please know we also as a family have not forgotten you in prayer and are so amazed by your affection and sacrifice for our family. God has truly shone brightly through you! You know who you are!

For those of you in the process of adopting, here is the number one bit of wisdom I have been given in waiting....are you ready? Spend as many dates and mini prayer dates with your spouse as possible. Lean on God and each other.

 God Bless you always (:

Love in Christ,
All of us

Adoption update...Time to worship..Time to serve a Widow and bring home some Orphans! Our youngest Son's photo!

My God has done great things. He has moved mountains. He has forgiven my heavy sins and lifted my head. What a mighty God we serve and worship. May all Glory be given to the Creator of heavenly lights.

-Amen

Well, after much praying and waiting on a very direct calling from the Lord, we have been given the green light to start a much desired fundraising project. This one aims directly at the Heart of God and we are very honored to be in the middle of it. I would like to take a moment and explain why to me this is such a great answer to prayer. It is not the funds, while in fact we need them. It is the project itself.

During prayer at the beginning of our baby steps into the deep waters of fundraising, Marcos and I waited on the Lord. We knew there had to be a better way to raise funds for adoption than asking or starting a 5K, BJJ tournaments, selling donuts, working our tails off, online auctions, garage sales, support letters etc.

We think those ways are all good, very good ( thank you so much to all of you who have initiated and even taken the reigns for all of these!)
but we wanted something GREAT!
GREAT for God!

Not a money maker but a project or fundraiser that would really focus on more than us,us,us or stuff or even fitness!

Waiting for the approval to raise funds was difficult. Our flesh suffered with anxiety over every proposal and sweet, selfless request from others to raise funds in different ways. We knew if we started any or all fundraisers that life at home would not be spent preparing our family in Christ for such a selfless change adoption requires of our family.  Work, school, relationships and fear would motivate each one. So, we did our best to pray through each one. We moved forward and ONLY by God's grace...we waited for this one Fundraising project ..we knew would have eternal lasting value!

So, without further "teasing" we want to introduce you to our answered prayer. I have copied most of the details below and soon....very soon...there will be more! Soon, God will provide the Widow...make a way for the orphan and WE AS A FAMILY can get our hands dirty serving BOTH!

Pray for our widow......
Pray for your part in this........
Ask God to love on everyone involved and that each person will hear the good news of Jesus.....

HERE WE GO!!!!!!

and

Presents, the project of helping a Widow in the community with home repair, construction or restoration  through donated supplies and sponsorship of the adopting family to raise funds for the orphan!

Here is how it works....

Think of Fundraisers where people participate in a 5K or a marathon than ask for donations. You will send out prepared letters seeking "Sponsors" to help donate towards you ..  not playing in a golf tournament or running but in this particular project, YOU or your TEAM, CHURCH GROUP actually working on a widow's house instead!

All supplies will be donated so %100 of the money raised will go to  adopting orphans into a family, in this case our Family and kiddos from China!

As you gather "Sponsors" for your work day....

It gets better...
Life song FOR ORPHANS has given us a matching grant.....
$2,500.00
If we raise that ...can you imagine how much closer we will be to bringing home two children...no longer orphans but loved and redeemed by God.

So, I'm going to be looking for workers...small and big..strong and not so strong ( me )

We will be praying for the Widow ...
and we will be working with BOTH HANDS ( the logo at the top ) as well as Life song to get this project up and running!

PLEASE CONTACT ME TO SPEAK AT YOUR CHURCH, WORK, SMALL GROUP OR RECRUIT SOME WORKERS TO LOVE ON THIS WIDOW.....THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!

Thank you Lord for answered prayers....Thank you Life song....Thank you Both Hands....so amazing ( : Praise be to God! I think this calls for a photo..introducing our soon to be youngest son....here is

Daniel Thomas....

Luke 1:37 and 2 Corinthians 12:9

Luke 1:37
"For nothing is impossible with God."

2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, " My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

Today as I looked at the list and mess in my growing house that needs to be organized, built and repaired I realized how mighty my God is. In the midst of adding two more children, more special needs and a host of other monumental challenges...God says..this is my strongest hour!

I believe Him.

I am not ready. We are not ready. I do not have everything they need. Marcos and I are certainly not equipped with all knowledge and know how. We are not fully funded..yet. This is exactly why we need Jesus. His strength is made perfect in our weakness. God in all His Glory answers impossible prayers and does it through might I say, puny people. So, we are exactly where we should be and this is our strongest hour because we are weak and in this we can boast that our creator is the only one who can fill in those puny spaces..even through puny people.

Nothing really really is Impossible for God. I have seen Him answer the most impossible prayers! I have prayed and asked for things that only testify He is real and in control. He can do anything, it is only a matter of if He will? Pray with us and pray BIG prayers that honor God. We pray too small sometimes just asking God for a little help. He is in the miracle business. Don't get me wrong, I am not substituting Santa Claus here. I mean those prayers that just honor His will and word that sometimes we leave out for FEAR it is just too big to ask for!

Here is a quote that I saw yesterday and it struck me to the core.

" I  believe in Christ like I believe in the sun not because I can see it,
but  by it I can see everything else."
C.S. Lewis

This is pretty much my feelings on our adoption lately. I have been continually reminded to say "No." to many engagements, events and even things I wanted to attend. God beckons and reminds Marcos and I that Family needs to be building in strength and fellowship due to the busy week days that come with adoption, working, homeschooling and fundraising. It is difficult to plan nothing each weekend and open up time to spend with God and just each other. It is not even American! We tend to plan each minute in our lives.  However since then, we have SEEN God work in many ways.  He is so Good.
Enjoy His presence. It is never time wasted. With Christ we SEE life through a different lens.
Thank you for your prayers and love. God Bless you.

-Jamie

While reading and praying about this "Nesting phase" in our family. My sweet Father in heaven must have wanted me to be reassured that He was listening. This little bird stopped by my window and began  preparing her nest too. What a sweet intimate and mighty God He is! I captured the photo on a return visit I requested with camera in hand!

Time to be content..

In adoption and life we can struggle with the desire for MORE! In the beginning of our adoption the Lord so generously spoke to my heart through His word about contentment. Even in adoption. While it is a good thing, I must not make it an idol. God should always be my FIRST LOVE, in everything and over everyone. Again during the wait I have slipped very casually into this struggle. I want to change the world for Jesus! First though, I must remember that in all circumstances, I need to be content. God is my peace, not tasks, not salvations, not people, not adoptions, not volunteering, not gifts, not donations, not stuff, not favor or good works.

Are you struggling with contentment on your journey?

Listen to the sermon below

and read

1 Timothy 6:3-21

Time for an Adoption Update and Prayer

Moose waits and dreams of the days to come. He dreams of  Toddlers roaming the house with sweet sticky fingers, food overtaken by gravity from small chubby hands and endless laughter.

Samuel concentrates on his BJJ and matures into an Godly young man more and more everyday. He is moving into adulthood by taking on more responsibility at the school and setting new goals.  God is so good to have given us such a blessing in our son.

In God's timing we wait and pray.... will you pray with us?

We felt a nudge from the Holy Ghost to update everyone on life, adoption and all things needed for prayer. The adoption is still moving forward as we wait on the approval from our State in a home study review. This is one of the hardest hurdles for me as I feel very strongly that it is one extra bit of red tape that defines the reasons children miss out on families, medical care and adoption all together.
I know people who have been trying to get this law changed for years but without victory as of yet. However, as I slip into the sin of discontent I must repent and say that God is unstoppable and His plans are meant for Good. Do you want proof? Check out the photo above! Miracles were happening every step of our sweet son's process. It was a mustard seed moment almost every week in his process. I declare, there is a mighty God that pursues the fatherless with a love and agenda that is way better than anything we can imagine!

God also calls us to pray and seek him, so please..keep praying.  We really need your prayers for us as a family during this process.
With the risk of getting really personal let me ask for these prayers in priority and with humility as we really need your prayers...did I say that already? ( I love you, God loves you more.... )

Pray for our family. We are all working six days a week ( Marcos is teaching 21 classes per week mostly alone, Samuel is teaching 1 and 4 with assistance )  plus homeschooling, applying for grants and fundraising. I think our friends are wondering if we went on vacation like everyone else...lol! Do you want to hang out? Put on a uniform, we will see you in class!  We are exhausted but also being renewed by the Lord when we humble ourselves enough to ASK! Pray we will depend on God more! Pray we will obey, trust, listen and seek God as a family UNITED in God's great Love!

Pray for our Kids and Caretakers in China. We wait on updates but they are hard to come by and often at the discretion of the caretakers there. Pray for the ones loving them and taking care of them now.  Pray that FAITH in GOD will already be planted in their hearts by hearing and seeing the word of God.

Pray for China. The adoption climate is difficult now. We see countries open and close every year. Some children are stuck in the enemies political games between leaders. They languish in orphanages unable to be introduced to Jesus by the love of a family..they are Exiles. They are without a home, a legacy, a future and a hope.

Pray for our school and business. It is amazing how the spiritual climate changes during an adoption. The captive are about to be set free. Sometimes even the things that once went smooth become very turbulent in nature. Our bread and butter needs prayer. It is the filter in which God has sustained us to pour into the lives of orphans in the past. We pray it will increase for GODLY reasons. We want to continue to use it in a manner that glorifies God.

Also...please send us your prayer needs, we want to pray for you too!!!

Thank you,
Jamie, Marcos, Samuel, Leah (Lana) and Daniel (Zee)
